Graduate Apprentice 2007

Graduate Apprentice 2007

I’m Jason Norris. I was the Graduate Apprentice 2007.

So what is the Graduate Apprentice you say? Well its basically three work placements in my year following graduation, aimed at giving me a diverse and valuable insight into work in the professional services industry. I graduated from Durham in June 2007, and like a lot of my friends, was not all too sure where I wanted to go, or what I wanted to do… This scheme, therefore, was the perfect opportunity to learn a little more and make an informed decision. I had a brilliant year, and recommend the scheme without a second’s hesitation to anyone.  I experience a diverse range of business placements, opened doors I never knew existed and met and worked with some of the most talented people in Birmingham.

Looking forward, I now work for Deloitte, which is a direct result of my time with them as the Apprentice.  I’m aiming to maintain this blog and track my role as a Graduate with the firm, but also to track the many activities I’m aiming to be involved with over the coming years… I’ll also think about updating the photo at some point.

  1. Jason,

Just been scanning through your blog and firstly, congratulations on your placement, sounds like you’re having a great time!

I was wondering, is the Graduate Apprentice a thing for just one person a year? Who do you actually work for? (I understand that you are shifting between companies, but wanted to know who sets this up and where will you be working at the end of these placements?)

    Many thanks in advance,
    Reg

    Reg,

I hope that you are well!

Many thanks for the comment on the blog, how did you come across it by the way?

The Graduate Apprentice is a scheme run by Birmingham Future (www.birminghamfuture.co.uk) in collaboration with Graduate Advantage. The scheme is a unique opportunity for one individual to experience three very different placements across the course of one year. I am directly employed by each of my three placement companies for a period of sixteen weeks, with the timings and schedule of placements decided by me. I came across the scheme as a normal graduate role, through the University of Birmingham Careers website.

its currently in the second year, but is going from strength to strength. We will actually be interviewing for the Graduate Apprentice 2008 next week, where I will form part of the panel.

More details can be found on the dedicated website (www.graduateapprentice.co.uk, but if you want any more information on my role, please don’t hesitate to ask!

    I hope that helps,

    Best wishes,

    Jason
